NRA Defensive Pistol

Who Can Attend

This course is for law-abiding adult United States citizens, as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law, who are also experienced shooters. Students must be able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, and cleaning the firearm. 

6 Hour Intermediate Course

NRA Defensive Pistol will introduce you to the techniques needed to develop a defensive mindset and the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to carry and use a concealed handgun ethically, responsibly, and with confidence. 

Prerequisite: Prospective students can demonstrate that they have mastered the prerequisite skills by producing an NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course Certificate, competitive pistol shooting qualification card, DD 214 with pistol qualification, or providing other forms of pistol qualification to the Lead Instructor for evaluation.

Additionally, a Pre-Course Assessment must be passed by every prospective student.

Concealed Carry courses do not meet the prerequisites for this course.

Required Equipment

  • Quality pistol appropriate for concealed carry - minimum of 9mm or .38 Special with at least 3 magazines or 2 speed loaders (for revolvers)
  • At least 200 rounds of quality ammunition suitable for practice (full metal jacket - FMJ)
  • Quality strong side hip holster – form fitting leather or kydex, must cover the trigger and the entire trigger guard. Can be either Outside the Waist Band (OWB), or Inside the Waistband (IWB) - No drop rigs or leg holsters.
  • Quality belt, designed to carry a holster with firearm and ammo pouches with loaded magazines
  • At least 2 magazine holders or speed loader pouches that can be attached to the belt
  • Clothing appropriate for concealed carry (over garment can be a large shirt, jacket or vest) 
  • Eye protection and hearing protection (recommend electronic)
  • Knee pads
  • Sun glasses, sun screen, hat, hand towels and clothing for changing weather conditions on an outdoor range
  • Lunch, drinks and snacks 

Course Requirements

Passing rate for this course is extremely high due to personalized attention, methods of teaching, and time involved.However, there are courses of fire that are timed and must be accomplished to receive a certificate of completion. 

NOTE:

If, for any reason, you cannot pass this course you will be given an opportunity to return , at no additional charge, and complete the sections of difficulty.  A poor attitude toward firearms safety or the inability to learn new safe gun handling skills are the only things that will guarantee a failure without the ability to return.

Course Fee

This course is $160.00 per person.  A $35.00 non-refundable course deposit is required to reserve your seat.
